How to cook it · about 60 minutes

  1. Melt the butter in a 9×13 baking dish in a 350°F oven. Do not pour it off — it is the whole trick.
  2. Slice the peaches and toss them with half a cup of the sugar and the cinnamon.
  3. Whisk the flour, the remaining sugar, the baking powder and the milk into a loose batter.
  4. Pour the batter into the melted butter. DO NOT STIR. Spoon the peaches evenly over the top. Still do not stir.
  5. Bake 45–50 minutes. The batter rises up around the fruit and browns at the edges.
  6. Serve warm with the ice cream.
