Before you start
Call 811 before digging a new bed, especially along the house where service lines come in. Each bag is about 50 lb — lift with your legs and use the wheelbarrow.

Strip the grass and weeds and dig the bed down about two inches so the rock sits level with the lawn.
Slope the soil gently away from the house so water runs off rather than toward the foundation.
Lay the fabric with the edges overlapped by six inches and pin it every couple of feet.
Tip the rock out in piles and rake it to an even two inches, then hose it off to show the color.
