Project book · an afternoon

Cookout for a crowd

Everything for a garden party, scaled to the number you are actually feeding.

How many people?

This fits in a car

About 134 lb of materials. Comfortably inside what a car carries (200 lb), so any shopper can take it. ⚠️ 10 items on the list have no weight on file, so the real load is a little heavier than this.

Before you start

Keep raw meat separate from everything else and do not put cooked burgers back on the plate they came out on.

How it goes · about an afternoon · beginner

  1. Work out the headcount and add a couple. Somebody always brings somebody.
  2. Get the ice last and keep it in the cool box. It is the one thing that cannot wait.
  3. Light the charcoal about forty minutes before you want to cook, and wait for it to go grey.
  4. Cook the burgers and dogs in batches and hold them in a foil tray at the side of the grill.
  5. Put the rubbish bags out where people can see them and you will spend the evening sitting down.

Feeding people instead? The recipe book works the same way — pick a meal, say how many, every ingredient lands on the list.
