Before you start
Call 811 before digging — a path often crosses the line from the street to the house. It is free and takes a couple of days. Each bag is about 50 lb, so use the wheelbarrow.

Lay two garden hoses out as the edges of the path, 3 ft apart, and walk it to check the curves feel right.
Cut along the hoses and dig the path out about 3 in deep, then tamp the bottom flat.
Set the edging along both sides with the top just above the grass, and stake it every 3 ft.
Lay the fabric between the edging, overlapping any seams by six inches, and pin it down.
Tip the gravel in and rake it to an even two inches, a little higher in the middle so rain runs off.
