Empty the closet and pull out the old rod and shelf, filling the holes they leave.
Draw a level line for the shelf-and-rod at about 84 in, and another for the linen shelf a foot above it.
Put a wall clip on each line every foot, and screw an end bracket at each side wall.
Snap the shelves into the clips and fix a support brace every three feet from the front edge down to the wall.
Cap the cut ends so they do not snag clothes.
