Likely causes — tick the parts you want

A burned-out bulb
most likely · Most people can do this
How to check: Switch between low and high beams. If only one mode is out on one side, it is almost always that bulb.
- Headlight bulbs (pair)(Replace both sides so they match — ask which bulb size this car takes for low or high beam.)
A blown fuse
possible · Most people can do this
How to check: Find the headlight fuse using the diagram on the fuse box lid or in the owner’s manual. A broken wire inside the clear fuse means it has blown.

A melted or corroded bulb socket
less likely · Doable with tools and a free afternoon
How to check: Unplug the bulb and look at the plug. Brown, melted or green-crusted contacts mean the socket needs replacing.

Be careful

Don’t touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers — skin oil shortens its life. Bright bluish-white factory HID lights run on high voltage and are a job for a shop.
